Oklahoma! @ South Arbor Charter Academy

This spring, the students of South Arbor are going to be staging the great Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, Oklahoma! They will be performing the Getting to Know…version.

The Getting To Know Series: Uniquely adapted musicals specifically for youth performers. Rodgers & Hammerstein’s first collaboration remains, in many ways, their most innovative, having set the standards and established the rules of musical theatre still being followed today. Set in a Western Indian territory just after the turn of the century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story. Although the road to true love never runs smooth, with these two headstrong romantics holding the reins, love’s journey is as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road. That they will succeed in making a new life together we have no doubt, and that this new life will begin in a brand-new state provides the ultimate climax to the triumphant OKLAHOMA! In this adaptation for pre-high school students, the content has been edited to better suit younger attention spans, but all the elements that make this show a classic are still in place. You and your students will be enchanted by the timeless story and the dazzling score, while at the same time learning about theater and its production.

Farewells and New Beginnings

A (farewell) letter from Heather:
September 9, 2015

Dear Center Stage Family,

The rumor is true! After starting Center Stage Productions 8 years ago it is time for me to leave. It was amazing to see this company go from a dream to reality so it is not easy to leave. With that being said, I and very excited to be able to work along side my husband to minister to the people of Toledo, Ohio as he recently accepted a position as lead pastor at First Alliance Church.

I can happily say I am leaving CSP healthy and strong and the shows will go on! The board will be sending out info about changes being made in the near future,

The question has been asked if I will continue theater stuff in Toledo. I honestly thought I was going to take a break but new opportunities are already coming my way, so we shall see!!!!

CSP will always have a piece of my heart and I can’t wait to see how it grows and changes in the future!!

Love to all!
Heather Schneemann

A letter from Dave:
September 23, 2015

Greetings Center Stage Family!

Our production year has begun with a major change. Our founding director and my partner in crime has been called to a new home where I am positive she must be needed (much like Mary Poppins). (Coincidence?) Heather was and is everything that Center Stage has always been about. Drama is for everyone regardless of age, race, ability, or wealth. The company cannot and will not be the same without her and she will be missed by everyone here that has benefited from her love for us all.

This leaves us to decide the direction of Act II of CSP. I have thought long and hard about what to do about the future. I have been encouraged by many of you (as well as my own wife and children) to keep this awesome company going. I cannot do it exactly like Heather, but I am happy to announce that the show WILL go on!

I am not able to do this alone, so I would like to introduce you to our board of directors and staff of the future! All of these people immediately were onboard with doing whatever it takes to guide, as well as shape, the future of CSP.

Board of Directors:
Jeff Greunke-President
Christina Hasselkus-Vice President
Kim Middlin-Secretary
Angie Kenyon-Treasurer
David Middlin-Creative Director

Spring Show (South Arbor Only) Staff:
Director: Kailey Schneemann
Choreographer: Briana Bower
Music Director: David Middlin
Producer: Daisy Mull

We are in the process of hashing out many, many details. We will communicate more information soon. I am nervous and excited to see what the future holds. I am sure, however, that this group of kids and parents is going to do some really great things this year on and off the stage!

Dramatically yours,
David Middlin
